Written for the Generation to Come – Sunday Devotional
This shall be written for the generation to come:
the people which shall be created shall praise the Lord.
For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary;
from heaven did the Lord behold the earth . . .
Psalms 102:18-19 (KJV)
“This shall be written for the generation to come . . .”
Isn’t that really why we all write? This phrase makes me think of the conversation I had with Lissa a while back, and she said one of the things she feared the most was never getting the chance to tell all her stories.
In some ways, we writers are very morbid. Some friends like to quote the saying that ‘writing is a socially acceptable form of schizophrenia’. You can also say ‘insanity’ instead of ‘schizophrenia’. Almost every writer will write about death at least once, probably multiple times. If there is anyone who has an awareness of their own mortality, it’s writers. That’s why we fear never getting our stories written.
If we get them written down, even if they never get published in our lifetime, we are basically immortal.
I love the second half of this scripture as well – ‘for he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the LORD behold the earth . . .’
As a fantasy writer, I can really appreciate that.
When God made us in His image, it wasn’t just how we look, but also how we think and behave. Every aspect of every person already exists in God, and He was the one that gave us creativity.
Sometimes I think that was why Lucifer deceived Adam & Eve in the garden of Eden – he was jealous of their power to create.
My mom always told me that Satan can’t create anything, he can only pervert it.
It makes perfect sense.
God gave us the ability to create anything – words; pictures; buildings; music; but most especially LIFE.
What do you want passed on to ‘the people which shall be created’?
