Sunday Devotional – What is Love?
. . . Do not fear; Zion, let not your hands be weak.
The LORD your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.
~Zephaniah 3:16-17 NKJV
The “Day of Love” is almost upon us, but it has become so commercialized that “love” is now equated with “sex”.
That’s a little messed up.
Ask any guy – the act of having sex does not mean that they love the person they are doing it with. That’s why there’s a whole industry based on fulfilling the so-called “needs” of men (and women, too).
Sex can be an expression of love, between a man and wife, but love is so much more than just sex.
Love is patient, is kind, is not selfish, does not envy, does not seek to right wrongs (this is a tough one!), it never stops believing . . . it endures all things (paraphrased portions from 1 Corinthians 13).
To love, fully and completely, both friends and enemies, family and strangers, is to be like Christ.
Valentine’s Day shouldn’t be about whether you have a date or not. It should be about spending it with those you love.
This is my commandment, that ye love one another,
as I have loved you.
Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends.
~ John 15:12-13 KJV
For God so loved the world
that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him
should not perish
but have everlasting life.
~ John 3:16 NKJV
