A for Author (Sunday Devotional & A-Z Challenge 2012)
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. ~ Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV
I’ve always loved this scripture. It takes everything that happens in this world and makes it something so much bigger, and yet so much less important, at the same time.
What does it mean that Jesus is the author and the finisher of our faith?
Well, according to Webster’s 1828 Dictionary, “author” means:
One who produces, creates, or brings into being.
So Christ is the beginning of our faith, because without Him, there is no faith. He is the one who asks us to suspend the rules of this world in exchange for His miracles.
We authors truly are attempting to imitate God. We ask that our readers have faith in us, that they suspend their rules for a while and give over to ours.
How can we do any less with our God?
